Guy specialises in rural estate management, valuations and associated professional work.

Guy’s principal estate client is Brighton & Hove City Council, whose City Downland Agricultural Portfolio comprises some 10,500 acres of tenanted agricultural land and associated property.

Guy advises various CEO’s, Resident Agent’s and Estate Owners on matters relating to agricultural and rural property and is well known for his tenacity in dealing with agricultural rent reviews.

Guy’s rural professional work includes strategic development advice, compulsory purchase and compensation, valuations, agricultural tenure and tenancy successions. Guy has a lead role in the Southern Region providing professional advice and valuation services to a range of clients and he is a panel valuer and agent for the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation.

Recent Projects

  • Financial performance and portfolio reporting.
  • A disposals project for Brighton & Hove City Council involving a £5m reinvestment in the core estate. This involved identifying under-performing assets, negotiating their surrender and establishing ways to maximise their value prior to disposal. This is an ongoing project.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in preparing financial appraisals, planning feasibility and heritage assessment for the re-development of 20,000 sq ft of traditional agricultural buildings within the Brighton & Hove portfolio to increase capital value and rental income.
  • Negotiating the surrender of the lease of a youth hostel and project managing and coordinating the rural team to deliver appraisals and planning advice, including financial justification for the re-development. This project created significant increase in capital value and added 20% to the turnover of the client’s estate.
  • Agreeing the surrender of two cottages from an agricultural tenancy, managing planning consultants to obtain positive pre-app advice and increasing the value of the client’s asset from £500k to £2m prior to disposal.

Career History

Guy joined Savills in 2015 having worked as as a Rural Chartered Surveyor at Smiths Gore in Petworth since 2010. He was awarded Fellowship of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers in 2005 and qualified as Chartered Surveyor in 2004, having completed a BSc Hons Degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management at Harper Adams University in 2003.
