Iain is a Senior Planning Partner in our Planning Environment, Energy and Infrastructure Law Group. He sits on our Real Estate Sector Leadership Team. He has over 25 years of experience of complex development and infrastructure projects and related matters.

Iain’s experience includes:

  • Advising, for a decade, Severnside Distribution Land Limited on their proposals for the delivery of 600 acres of warehouse and distribution floorspace at Central Park, South Gloucestershire
  • Advising Grosvenor Great Britain and Ireland on the promotion of strategic landholdings in Cambridgeshire, Sussex and Essex
  • Advising Lend Lease UK on significant commercial and residential development schemes in London, including Silvertown Quays, Elephant Park and Chiswick
  • Advising Legal and General on development schemes in London, including leading the team advising on complex s106 agreements, securing affordable housing and physical and social infrastructure
  • Advising the Wellcome Foundation on their proposals for a major research, development and residential campus scheme adjacent to their existing Genome Campus at Hinxton in South Cambridge.
  • Advising the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government on the Holocaust Memorial Foundation’s called-in application for the UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre in Victoria Tower Gardens, adjacent to the Houses of Parliament
  • Advising Gallagher Estates on a variety of s106 driven projects - including the redevelopment of the former Hamworthy Power Station, Poole and the sustainable urban extension at Emersons Green, South Gloucestershire.
  • Advising St Modwen on their mixed use employment and residential strategic landholding in Worcestershire
  • Advising Merton College, Oxford on the promotion of land for residential development in Oxfordshire
  • Advising Capital and Counties PLC on their major redevelopment proposals for Earls Court and Olympia, focusing specifically on the planning application, environmental statement and s106 planning agreement. Iain has led the advice on planning application preparation, EIA process and ES and planning application legal audit, consultation process issues and responses, section 106 agreement negotiation strategy and CIL interface issues and interaction with neighbouring landowners and uses
  • Advising Ballymore Group on residential led development in London, including Leamouth Peninsula, Wapping Lane, Ladbroke Green, Hayes Station and Brentford Riverside
  • Advising Red Tree LLP on their proposals for 5,500 home new settlement in the Sherford Valley in South Hams, Devon. The project is an innovative design led response to housing pressures in the South West region, brought forward as part of the EbD process led by the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment. Advice has included EIA and subsequent re screening and scoping and advice related to appropriate assessment issues.
